Mortal Kombat 1 appears to be a smart iteration of what we experienced with MK11, with familiar movesets mixing with new combos to create truly dazzling battles. With dense environments and detailed stages, beautiful character models, and dazzling cinematics, it's hard to turn away from the gameplay NetherRealm is putting forward here. 

The studio's chief creative officer says that "Mortal Kombat 1 marks a new beginning for the franchise", with Ed Boon noting that MK1 will feature an "original storyline and fresh take on classic characters." Speaking of classic characters, some legendary fighters will be returning to explore this reborn Mortal Kombat universe – created by Fire God Liu Kang – with all-new backstories and twists on classic rivalries.
